Description
Benbaun is the highest peak in County Galway’s iconic Twelve Bens mountain range in Connemara National Park. This hike takes us through the Glencorbet Valley, where we are rewarded with panoramic views over the Atlantic and the wild Connemara landscape. PHYSICAL EFFORT LEVEL: Difficult to Strenuous TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY: none - but expect steep ascent/descent DISTANCE: 17 km ASCEND: 1100 m TIME: 6-7 h The hike takes you through open, untamed terrain, blending sections of farm paths and mountain trails with vast stretches of untouched wilderness. Expect to encounter rocky outcrops, boulder fields, loose scree, wet and muddy patches, trickling streams, grassy slopes, and dense heather.
